Blairgowrie History Fair

25/8/2014

Our fair in the Wellmeadow, Blairgowrie, was a huge success - attended by an estimated 600 people over the three hour event. The fair brought together archaeologists, living history re-enactors, and crafts-folk to help tell the story of the archaeological digs to the broader public. So having talked to some Picts, and heard some story-telling, you could do some woodcraft or make a pot, or talk to experts on subjects as diverse as place-names to the study of pollen in the peats at Glenshee. We even had the original finds from the dig on site, with our Black Smith making replicas of the buckles and blades...how cool is that?
With thanks to the 'Glasgow Vikings' re-enactment group; pot-maker Nicola Hope; Blacksmith Simon Lidwell; place-name expert Peter McNiven; Richard Tipping and Danny Paterson (pollen and peat); Clive and Dick from Community treeCycle;  Blairgowrie, Rattray and District Local History Trust; and the Glenshee Archaeology Project - Dave Sneddon and Steve Black (Northlight Heritage) and David Strachan and Sarah Malone (PKHT).
